It's time again for that age-old institution of the family reunion 'eh? Trying to think of something new and interesting to do besides going to a local park and have everyone bring jello, soda, and hope the kids can be entertained with Frisbee and sack races? Why not try a
vacation rental?
If you're reading this and not quite sure what a vacation rental is, then let me explain real quick. A vacation rental is a cabin, condo, home, or townhouse that someone owns and rents out on a nightly basis. They are fully furnished with all the comforts of home and more private, spacious, and often cheaper on a per-room basis than a hotel. They are also the perfect place to hold a family reunion everyone will remember for a long long time.
Space
Vacation rentals come in all sizes. You can rent one-bedroom condos all the way up to 12-plus-bedroom mansions with massive game rooms, pools, hot tubs, maids, butlers, drivers, etc. all included. The price of the larger ones might startle you at first, but remember, you're splitting the price with aunt Jackie, uncle Joe, and all the other branches of your family tree. This makes it incredibly affordable and so much more cozy to have the family all together.
Many of the
vacation homes also have yards that kids can play in, and some are pet friendly so you can bring every member of your family along for the reunion. Large vacation rentals are an affordable and cozy way to get the family together.
Food
Vacation rentals come equipped with kitchens that are ready to rock and this can help save money when you're having everyone over for breakfast, lunch and dinner. When you have Mom, Dad, Grandpa, Grandma, aunts, uncles and cousins all in one place it brings a whole new meaning to dinner with the family (and a ton more hands to pitch in).
Time
With everyone in the same lodging you get to spend more time with the people you want to see for the reunion. That means more time spent with the group and less time going from one place to another or waiting for everyone to get to one place before heading to the activities.
Activities
Vacation rentals are typically located near or in fantastic
vacation destinations such as ski resorts, beaches, mountain resorts etc. That means there is no end to the fun family activities.
Family bonding
When I was a kid my family, three uncles, one aunt, their families, and grandma and grandpa would rent a cabin that was tucked away on a mountain every summer. During the day we would all go out hiking, fishing, biking and ATV riding, etc. We would spend three days just being kids and having fun in the outdoors and the adults would let us run wild and tire ourselves out so that that they had the nights to themselves.
I remember one time I still had energy to burn so I decided to spy on the adults, and to my surprise it looked like they were having fun without us. They were all gathered around the kitchen table playing cards and telling stories from their own childhood. Grandpa was asleep on the couch, but grandma was spinning yarn after yarn about my dad and his siblings as kids. This was the kind of family bonding that I've never forgotten.
Thanks for reading, and happy vacationing.
