Mountain Reservations: Awards and funding for the Utah Avalanch Center

Recently Black Diamond Equipment was awarded the first annual Conservation and Sustainability Award from the Park City, UT based Summit Land Conservancy. This award was preceded by the their 17th annual Friends of UAC (Utah Avalanche Center) Fundraiser which raised over $50,000 for the group. Do you smell that? I smell conspiracy. Just kidding, this isn't that kind of article. In fact we're delighted for all involved. In truth, Peter Metcalf, the CEO of Black Diamond, has been quoted saying, "Preserving land for sustainable recreational use is at the heart of BD’s commitment to our community." The spoken sentiment followed by an actionable commitment shows just what kind of a company Black Diamond is. For 17 years Black Diamond has been working with local Utah companies to put on a fun charitable event that benefits all of us winter loving people. The Utah Avalanche Center is responsible for field  observations and reporting, daily reports of conditions and forecasts, warnings and alerts, avalanche awareness, public interface and research. This season also brings with it new technology for the UAC. Starting this winter they will be deploying RSS feeds of snow conditions, and will be utilizing Twitter to track, report and alert snow conditions. They are currently on Facebook so if you want to like their fan page you can get in on the avalanche discussions and get updates before you hit the slopes. The UAC is an incredibly important group of people who work to keep winter a safe time to enjoy the outdoors, and with that we thank Black Diamond for 17 years of supporting something that makes the season fun for everyone. Thanks for reading, and happy vacationing.
